THE PURPOSE

In the good old days, legend has it, aspiring songwriters could come to Nashville and find publishers who would open their doors to them, listen to their songs, help them develop their craft and invite them to hang out with their writers. Today a newcomer is more likely to find a receptionist reciting the well-worn phrase "We do not accept unsolicited material."

That's where "Ready for the Row" is designed to help. Through classes, individual consultation and critiques Barbara Cloyd can help writers develop their skill in writing songs for the Nashville market and can advise them on how to navigate their way through the maze of the music business. With her insight and experience she can offer knowledge in a personalized, concentrated way that could otherwise take years to learn

SONG CRITIQUES

Barbara's critiques give writers detailed and in-depth feedback on the craft and commercial potential of their songs. You do not need to have a studio demo in order to get songs critiqued. In fact, you are encouraged to get feedback before investing in a demo. Even a rough recording is fine as long as the vocals and chords can be heard. Fully produced demos are, of course, also acceptable.

Critiques can be given over the phone or by email.

For each song you would like critiqued, please send:

  1. A recording of the song
  2. Lyrics
  3. Contact information including phone numbers and email address
  4. Payment
  5. Specify phone critique or email critique

Specify whether you want the critique through a phone call or by email. For email, please allow up to two weeks. For a phone call, please give information on possible times you would be available. Barbara will contact you to set up an appointment for the phone call within four days of receiving your songs.
